About the Galway Ensemble-in-Residence

"ConTempo have spent the past three years tirelessly performing, coaching, giving workshops to young and old throughout the county, and are certainly to be credited with stimulating a wide interest in classical music."
- The Galway Independent

The Galway Ensemble-in-Residence selected ConTempo Quartet to be the heart of a music development programme for Galway City and County. Based in NUI Galway, ConTempo began their residency in January 2003.

The residency is designed to bring a love of music to new people and new venues, and to enhance the experience of those already involved in music.

Activities of the residency include:

- Concerts in both new and established venues, schools and public areas.
- Workshops with schoolchildren in partnershp with the Galway Education Centre, lecture-recitals, chamber music workshops with the Galway Youth Orchestra, intensive, week-long schools for young musicians and individual lessons for string players.
- Collaboration with musicians from Galway and throughout Ireland, including traditional musicians, dancers, visual artists, writers and composers of new work.
- The establishment of the ConTempo Festival Orchestra, working with local choirs and presenting a summer musical festival as part of the Galway Arts Festival.
- Featuring in the Bob Quinn documentary, "ConTempo goes West".
